Baptismal Fonts

In the early christian times a pool of water located in the bishop's church was used as a baptism font but as time went by more and more of the individuals being baptized became young infants and the church moved to colder regions baptism came to be formed over a bowl which stood on a pedestal in or near the Eucharistic room. During the medieval times the bowls became highly decorated baptismal fonts and when the baptismal water became a source of abuse large covers were built over the baptismal fonts.
